For those who don't already know, I have been invited to be a Peace Corps Volunteer serving in Ukraine starting March 21st!! I am very excited for this adventure I am about to embark on! After reading other PCV's blogs who are serving in Ukraine, I am quite nervous about how I will be accepted in the host country. Many have stated how "flashy", dressed up, and beautiful the women are and how if you have one speck of dirt on your shoes you are considered a slob. So of course, you may understand where the nerves are coming from. Rarely do I ever wear globs of make-up, or dress nicely, and I love being dirty (I love Archaeology)! Because I have not experienced Ukraine first hand, I will try to keep all preconceived notions about how my apparel should be until I experience it first hand, but everyone's comments will remain informative and precautionary. Then again, I am sure everyone will love me. I mean, who doesn't?! (definitely saying that in my facetious "I am cocky" tone)
As I prepare for my departure to Ukraine in 7 weeks, I find myself making lists for anything and everything! I am literally staring at 5 lists on my desk right now: 1. Items need to buy 2.Paperwork needed to be filled out 3. Packing list 4. To do list for the day and 4.5. for the rest of my time at home and 5. a list of all the things I don't want to give away. The thing is, I have been writing the lists over and over again simply because I have no idea where to start.
OK, so you may be asking yourself, "What is the point to this post?" All in all I am very excited and nervous to leave. I also wanted to do a "test" post because I am finding this "blogging" thing quite challenging in terms of layout, features, and simply because I am not a big writer. But, I insure you, my best stories/writings comes from when I am most vulnerable, so maybe once I get out to Ukraine, there will be a good post on here.
In the meantime, I shall keep busy with making feather hair clips (that will soon be on etsy for all you wonderful people to buy), volunteering my spare time, and preparing for this great departure.
Until next time,
Peace Out Bay Area!
